Experience Matters
Susan has the extensive, hands-on public and private sector experience to effectively serve the 5th District.
Economic Development
As Director of Economic Development for Albany County, Susan worked to help small businesses access needed resources and provide training, transportation, and child care so that more residents can access good jobs. She promoted balanced and sustainable development to help grow our tax base as Chair of the City of Albany IDA and as a Board Member of Capitalize Albany Corporation. She continues these efforts – and works to develop affordable housing, combat blight, and support MWBEs – as a member of the County Legislature's Economic Development Committee.
Advocacy
As Vice President of Planned Parenthood’s statewide advocacy organization, Susan worked to expand access to healthcare for women and families. Her efforts to enhance equity and opportunity also include work on nutrition and literacy programs. She is a founding board member of the RED Bookshelf, and has organized and marched for social justice in Albany, New York City and Washington, DC.
Government
Susan worked for the New York State Senate Democratic Conference and served as Director of Communications for Albany County. Her work on legislative issues relating to underrepresented individuals and communities has been a guiding principle throughout her career. She continues these efforts in her public affairs work on afterschool programs, child poverty, and health and safety issues. Susan currently serves as Director of Public Information for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, where she manages programs that help people in under served communities understand their tax obligations and access free tax filing programs.
Education
Susan is a lecturer at the University at Albany’s School of Business and a member of UUP/AFT Local 2190. She serves on the board of the Center for Women in Government and Civil Society at the Rockefeller College and mentors students in the Fellowship on Women and Public Policy.
