Commitment Counts
Susan chose to live in the 5th Legislative District because she loves being part of this creative, diverse and walkable community. When she bought her home on Lancaster Street 25 years ago, few residents chose to raise their families in the neighborhood. Issues including crime, parking, and inadequate schools overshadowed the historic beauty and lively attractions that drew so many to our neighborhoods.
Susan worked with neighbors and public officials to help address problems and create community:
More and more families and individuals are now choosing to stay in the City of Albany. Our children chalk and race on the sidewalks, and teens skateboard in Washington Park. Our public schools are improving and graduation rates are rising as diverse voices lead efforts for academic success and career readiness.
Susan’s son and daughter attended Albany public schools from pre-K through high school. They were proud to represent the Albany Falcons as soccer and lacrosse players, and participated in many of the City’s youth programs. We must continue to improve our city’s youth and recreation programs to enhance equitable opportunities for our children to learn and grow and take pride in their multicultural city.
Our diversity is our strength. But we are also acutely aware of our weaknesses as we strive to become a more just and inclusive community.
Susan is committed to expanding programs and policies that respect, value and support the many voices in our City.

Susan worked with neighbors and public officials to help address problems and create community:
- Upgrading dilapidated and unsafe school buildings, and improving education policy and opportunity
- Creating development, growth and sustainability opportunities for small businesses that help to create a safe and inviting community
- Supporting Councilmember Richard Conti’s efforts to create a permit parking system
